Our Accessibility Guide
We have produced this guide for our guests with accessibility requirements, not just for those with reduced mobility but for people with hearing loss, special educational needs, older people, families with young children and more - it is designed to help our guests understand what we have to offer at Mount’s Bay Caravan Park and will help you decide if we are suitable to meet your needs. As always, we are happy to answer any questions you might have, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you.
Pre - arrival
We are a small family run business, priding itself on 27 years’ experience. Aidan and Lucy Smith live at, and manage Mount’s Bay Caravan Park and as a small family run business, local to the area we are able to provide our guests with a consistent, personal and friendly service. We are there to answer any questions you might have, take a booking, meet you on arrival, and as we live on the Park we are able to help if you need any further advice, information, or have any maintenance issues with your caravan whilst you are on holiday with us.
We are able to take and then confirm bookings by email, post, telephone or in person.
We are able to recommend local companies that hire wheelchairs and mobility scooters.
We are able to offer information regarding who to contact about water sports, beach accessibility and other local attractions/activities.
We allow delivery of shopping, from supermarkets, so long as it is not prior to check in. Delivery vans may not be permitted to drive up the Park’s access road without permission first.
We are able to store luggage if you have arrived early, and guests are able to use our carpark prior to check in. We are also able to do the same for you on departure.
Mounts bay caravan park is a vehicle free environment as possible, therefore vehicles are not permitted to park alongside the caravan or drive up to the caravans, other than arrival/departure day.
Public Transport
We are able to recommend local taxi firms that have wheelchair access.
Our nearest train station is Penzance (3 miles) there is also a main coach/ bus stop, taxi rank and tourist information centre all outside of the train station.
There is a bus stop very close to us, less than 100 metres from our lane (green lane), it is a flat walk. A timetable is available in our park hut or from reception. The bus stop is called ‘Godolphin drive’.
Reception
Vehicles are able to stop directly outside of our Reception to check in.
There are 2 steps leading to our reception door. Reception is a well-lit, level room.
We live on the Park; Reception is attached to our home.
During check in we will personally explain how a guest is able to contact us during their stay: We have reception door signs either clearly indicating that we are in and available, or that we have left the Park. In this event, our mobile telephone details are displayed for guests to reach us should they require assistance when we are not in reception. We also display our whereabouts if we are on the park somewhere in a caravan, for example, in order for a guest to find us easily.
We are happy to show guests to their caravan, help with luggage if necessary and show you how the appliances/heating works.
The area outside of reception is flat. There are 2 disabled parking bays located directly opposite reception, which guests are able to reserve when they book their holiday.
There is also room to ‘drop off’ shopping or heavy loads outside of reception, or passengers and families with young children can be dropped off here at any time.
Public areas
Mount’s Bay Caravan Park is on a gentle slope. The laundry room and caravans: 8, 9, 9a, 10 and 11 are at the top. Numbers 1, 2, 16 and 17 are closest to the bottom.
The small access road going up through the Park has a speed restriction of 5mph; it is tarmac with speed bumps that are clearly visible. From this road are paths leading up to each caravan
Vehicle access to the caravans on the Park is restricted by a ‘post’; it is clearly visible with black/yellow stripes and is only lowered for vehicles on arrival/departure days (usually Saturday), for maintenance vehicles to access the Park (gas delivery lorry, recycling lorry etc.) and can be lowered in the event of an emergency.
Restricted vehicle use helps keep the Park safe, particularly for children.
The adjacent car park is entirely flat with stone chippings for cars to park on and also has a lawn area where children can play ball games.
The carpark is private and accessible 24hrs. It is accessed via a crossing a small road (green lane) and is directly adjacent to the caravan park. There is street lighting by its entrance.
Outside of reception there is room to ‘drop off’ shopping or heavy loads or passengers and families with young children can be dropped off here at any time.
All public areas are permitted to have assistance dogs within them.
Lighting to public areas is via street style lights at the bottom and top of the park, at the entrance to the carpark and outside of reception. There is no lighting to the swimming pool area or outside the laundry room.
Caravan accommodation
We have 18 static caravans in 7 different models; they are all well-equipped and well-spaced apart. Outside each caravan is a grass area with a picnic table.
All models sleep 4 persons maximum, with one double and one twin. Some models will allow the lounge area bed to be used, please contact us first if you would like to use the lounge area for sleeping.
Travel cots, bed rails, high chairs are available to hire from us. Travel cots are only to be used in the lounge area of the caravans if you would like to use the twin bedroom for a travel cot, please inform us and we will advise you.
All models have a paths leading up to them and have between 2-4 steps to access them. All caravan steps have hand rails. Caravans 16 & 17 have 2 additional steps, leading up to the caravan.
We do not have any caravans that are wheelchair accessible, nor have any caravans that can accommodate a hoist or stand- aid equipment.
Once inside, all caravans are level and some have narrow corridors. Most caravans have narrow internal doors meaning it would be difficult to take a wheelchair/large walking frame through a bedroom door and up to a bed for example.
We only have showers, not baths.
We accept assistance dogs within all accommodation; we do need to be informed at the time of booking, please.
The park hut contains information with how to access medical help in the event of an emergency, or how to contact a GP. It also contains helpful information on what is available locally. Some of this information is also available on your welcome sheet in the caravan.
All of our TV’s have remote controls, most have subtitles available.
We have a quiet hour’s policy; ensuring noise is kept to a minimum from 10.30pm until 8am.
Swimming Pool
It is a heated outdoor, swimming pool. Open daily, weather permitting from Spring Bank Holiday until mid-September.
There is no lifeguard on duty - it is unsupervised, no under 18’s are allowed unsupervised. It has a maximum depth of 4.6ft.
The swimming pool is accessible via two steps and a tall gate that is kept locked at all times in order to keep children safe. It is completely enclosed to stop unauthorised access. At check in you are informed of the terms of usage for the swimming pool, once you have signed our form a key is issued to you so you can unlock the gated entrance.
Some health and safety signage is in picture form, around the pool area.
There are no showers or changing rooms for the swimming pool.
There are sun loungers and seating around the pool
The pool has steps leading into its shallow end and a ladder out of the deep end.
Laundry Room
The self-service laundry room has a step entrance; there is an ironing board, iron, laundry baskets, washing machine and tumble dryer for guests to use.
The Laundry room is a level, well lit room with non-slip flooring and seating is available.
The washing machine and tumble dryer are coin operated and front loading. Instructions are clearly displayed.
The Park hut
The park hut is an information kiosk. There are items like bus time tables, books, beach toys and BBQ coals for guests to borrow.
It is accessed via one steep step from the Parks access road.
